Paralyzed but not deaf
January 23, 2010A friend of mine paralyzed from the waist down, who had just had a tracheotomy operation prevented him form speaking, the doctor had given him a white board and pen to communicate. One morning, I visited him in his room when he picked up the white board, wrote something, and held it out to me with a nice smile. “I’m a bit cold,” it read. Seizing the pen, I wrote, “would you like me to shut down the window?” he nodded and, apparently amused, wrote, “I’m not deaf!”
